Tangerine Tango

I adore orange (our living room is drenched in varying shades of it), so I was thrilled to hear that Pantone's 2012 color of the year is Tangerine Tango. It's such an invigorating color! Here's a few of my favorite textiles in this vibrant hue.
For specifics on each fabric, click through to The Textile Files {Orange} on Pinterest.

So which one sends you into a tango?

A Colorful Morning

Good Monday morning! How was your weekend? Mine was especially amazing because I'm in Seattle visiting my sister and brother-in-law, Elise & Richie, their two adorable newborn twin boys, Ben & Luke, and my first and most awesome nephew (now officially "the big brother"), Taj. It's blissful to spend days lounging with the newborns whose needs are so simple - just to be fed and loved and changed. Their coos are incredibly sweet. It almost makes me want to have another baby.
(Michael - if you're reading this, don't worry. I said almost).

Before I head back to rocking and loving those babies, I am taking a few minutes to play around with one of my favorite iPad apps. It's the House Beautiful HB Color app

Do you have it too? What's your favorite part? Right now I'm using it to look for the perfect hue of peacock blue/green for a project I'm working on. If you're not yet familiar with it, take a little video tour with House Beautiful's editor in chief, Newell Turner.
Once you have it, you must share what your Color Personality is and if you think it's accurate! It's like color based astrology and is way too much fun to play around with. Mine is...

INDIGO
A brilliant old soul who is intuitive, sensitive, impulsive, curious, and ambitious, with a great lust for life.

Other than brilliant, I would say it's quite accurate.

Gorgeous Nympheus

Gorgeous, gorgeous Nympheus is one of Lee Jofa's most iconic prints. Recently, it was reimagined by Thomas O'Brien as part of their Heritage Collection which had 6 designers reinterpret a classic Lee Jofa fabric in their own style. O’Brien features the reverse side of the fabric, where the image is softer and more muted. Gorgeous.

The Nympheus handblock dates back to 1915. The inspiration for the design came from the silk panels of a 15th century Ming Dynasty screen, which had been painted with inks and mineral pigments. Somehow knowing the history behind it makes this textile even more gorgeous for me. Does it for you too?

I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of the Heritage Collection and meeting Thomas O'Brien while in NY for BlogFest2011. I was instantly drawn to both him and to this fabric, and still am. Gorgeous.

Oh, suzani!

Yes, it's true that suzanis seem to be everywhere these days but I still can't seem to get enough of them. Or, should I say - I can't get enough of the really good vintage original hand made ones (not the mass produced imitations, please). I recently discovered Sukan on Etsy, which is where I found these two stunning pillow covers. Based in Turkey, the shop owner has a lovely and well-edited collection of kilim, suzani and ikat pillow covers. One of them might just make the perfect little holiday gift to yourself.

{me} longings Autumn Pillow Collection

It makes me really happy when I meet someone who shares a similar design philosophy. It's even better when there's that "click"...You know how it is when you meet someone who is just a kindred spirit, right? That's how I feel about Chanee from {me} longings. We first met at BlogFest2011 in NY and became fast friends - realizing that we shared many, many things in common. I just love this girl. She's the real deal.

Which is why I'm not surprised by how incredible her new autumn pillow collection is. Take a look for yourself.
Chanee's mantra is simple. Her designs have to be healthy, sustainable, durable, high quality, and really pretty. She was motivated to create her line by the simple fact that she wanted to decorate her own home with fabrics that fit these criteria and couldn't find them. So she taught herself how to screen print and already knew how to sew from her mom, Phyllis Ann (one of the pillows in this line is named after her). Chanee literally does it all from designing, to hand carving the blocks, to screen printing right in her own laundry room.
"I have a slow design process but each piece is one of a kind and created with regard for our health and the environment." - Chanee Vijay
There are six textile design styles available - Phyllis Ann, Bertha, Zizi, Dottie, Mimi and Aya. All so lovely and elegant in their own right. Even West Elm agrees - they just asked Chanee to be a part of their Holiday Pop-Up Store with Etsy!
I think the color palette is irresistible. When Chanee and I were talking yesterday we were both gushing over our love of metallics and wondering if we'll ever tire of them. I can't imagine! But just in case you have some other color scheme in mind, Chanee is happy to work with you to create your own custom colors. She hand mixes all of her colors to get them just so, using Permaset Aqua water based screen printing ink which is about as eco-friendly as you can possibly get.
Chanee just launched her new {me} longings studio page where you can read all about her design process, buy these lovely new pillows and find out what she's working on now. {Hint hint... her upcoming Winter collection is inspired by her time in India. She'll be introducing some new colors - deep teal, metallic copper and, of course, more silver and gold.} Sounds divine.

Timorous Beasties Rorschach

Last month at the London Design Festival, Timorous Beasties launched their new fall collection of fabrics and wallpapers. The Rorschach collection has me completely mesmerized.

The inspiration for this series of vivid wallpaper designs came from the staining of damp blotches in a downtrodden bed. The blotched designs were then overlapped with traditional damasks to create these splendid papers.

What do you see in these psychedelic inkblots?

Martyn Lawrence Bullard for Schumacher

I've long been a fan of Martyn Lawrence Bullard's work but when I started watching Million Dollar Decorators I fell a little bit more in love with him. Seeing his cheeky, flirty personality on TV makes me just want to hang out over cocktails with him and discuss design until the wee hours of the morning. It would be fabulous, darling (can't you just hear him saying it, followed by a wink?)

His new collection of fabrics for Schumacher (that I first spotted in this month's Architectural Digestis nothing short of stunning. RIGHT up my alley. Here are a few examples, and I've also added all of my personal favorites to The Textiles Files on Pinterest.

{Top Row: Adras Ikat Print in Jewel, Nebaha Embroidery in Citron, Raja Embroidery in Jewel. Bottom Row: Sikar Embroidery in Flax, Sinhala Linen Print in Jewel, Pasha Paisley in Stone}
